Cats and humans are unquestionably different. We (humans) like to think of ourselves as much higher and valuable species, not only because we have morals and ethics, we also tend to have superior intelligence (in terms of, we know what is wrong and right, good or evil) and we are driven by our emotional ascepts, we have aspirations and ambitions to make this world a better place and to improve our upcoming generations morally.

Cats couldn’t care less about morals, nor do they have any ambitions to make this world or themselves better. sometimes, they may seem totally different, they don’t care about other cats and are not attached to their owners, they don’t think of themselves as the property of someone who cares about them.

But, does that mean Cats are entirely immoral or heartless?

According to John Gray, Author of feline philosophy “cats and the meaning of life”, Cats do have Principles and are also capable of love and affection, they do care about certain things deeply but only if it matches them. Cats do not have religions or any other moral philosophies that provide them with a set of rules/purposes to live upon. Cats philosophy (ethics) comes from within as if it already knows how to live.

So, what is the cat ideology? Can we the so-called “superior species” learn something from (fellow animal) Cats?

  • CATS ARE INDIVIDUALISTIC AND SELF-CONTAINED

As we already know, Cats are not as domestic as dogs. They don’t go around jumping and licking your face. Cats are often seen as individualistic, mysterious and independent.

Humans, many centuries ago, started to see the benefits of keeping a Cat. They are good at hunting rodents and other animals, which was useful to humans for protecting their crops and grain storage. On the other hand, humans have served as steady food suppliers and shelter providers. It’s no surprise most humans enjoy their company, and Cats are the one which benefits from it. Cats can be very fond of their owners, but, at the same time, they don’t need them. They don’t cling or are attached to their owners. If someone offers them food/Milk, they’ll accept it, but if someone doesn’t, They don’t hesitate to go out in the wild and start hunting again. If they like your comapny, they linger around, otherwise they leave.

According to John Gray, Cats can be highly sociable, and cooperate when necessary, but they, mostly function alone. They do not care about a sense of belonging, They are not in a need to be accepted, and, especially do not care what other cats think of them. Most humans, cannot bear their own company. When humans aren’t in pressing pain or experiencing immediate pleasure, we’re bored. If not immediately, then soon. And all of our pleasures — sex, drinking, good food, whatever — all become boring after a while. They are constantly looking for diversions to run away from dissatisfaction and feelings of fear, pain, loss, or grief.

“If you’re feeling bad, you just look at the cats, you’ll feel better, because they know that everything is, just as it is.”

Charles Bukowski

A French Philosopher- “Pascal” says, if you put human beings in a situation where they have nothing to do, they’ll be intensely unhappy. They’ll do things like gamble or start wars or really anything to escape the condition of inactivity. This is just a fundamental fact about humans.

  • THE CAT’S PHILOSPHY OF “LOVE”.

Based on a popluar philosphy of Cats, They can come to Love humans, but as opposite to us, They can love humans without needing them.

Cats, love us in the sense of enjoying our company, They even find bliss in it, and sometimes initate games and play! Or they shape some kind of communication with us, but, deep down, they do not really need us and we know it.

They can love us without needing us, and that idea seems nearly impossible, To us Humans.

Humans might be the smartest animal ever existed on this planet, but, are we the wisest?

  • CATS DO NOT CLING TO STORIES

Cats, are not self-aware and don’t find meaning in constructing stories about their lives. According to gray, the reason why the default emotion of cats is delight and content is because they don’t tell their lives as stories. on the opposite side, Humans seem obsessed with stories.

They, continually, look for narratives or create stories that explain their existence and the world around them. That’s why they turn to philosophy or religion. There is nothing more deleterious to us, than a broken, or tragic story which, most of us have. Hence, One of the default conditions of humans is misery. we are constantly worrying and dissatisfied with what is, and trying to escape it.

Even tho, Cats can meet with great adversities, they don’t dwell on concepts of history, future, death, or disease. They protect themselves and their young ones when they need to, but they don’t spend time worrying about these things.

Well, the point here is- yet, despite the inability to create stories, Cats, are one of the most successful species, and are growing vigorously to this day. For John Gray, Cats, are among the wisest animals because they’re spontaneous and playful and content with whatever life presents them. And they’re too involved in the present to worry about what might happen in the future.

So, Should we become Cats?

firstly, We should not try to become Cats.

We are humans, and we cannot change that. Humans are rather restless or anxious by nature and that is constant. It’s our essence, to create stories and be discontent with how things are. We have the gift to be self-conscious, and we will always be interested in some kind of religion, philosophy or in “what comes next”.

Gray, has shared some Tips for life, Obtained from his lifelong experiences with Cats.

  • Forget running after happiness, and Maybe, you’ll find it.

According to Gray, we will not find happiness by chasing it, because what makes us happy in the short-term, might not delight us in the future. The Cat’s way of being happy is just doing something we find interesting. This keeps them happy without knowing anything about happiness. The more you try to chase happiness, the more it seems like it’s running away from you. Once something happens that causes anger, joy, fear allow yourself to feel the emotion at the moment, then let it go. The more we try to suppress it, the more we allow an emotion/feeling to hold us back.

  • Stop finding meaning in every suffering

John Gray, Shared, if we keep looking for meaning in every suffering we feel,”There’s a risk that our misery becomes our meaning”.

and, the issue with this is, Our whole lives start to revolve around misery, which is not a great way to live.

A cat would say “Don’t get attached to suffering, and avoid those who are”.

It’s one of our tendency, once something wrong happens to you, we tend to carry this experience for around years, which forces us to develop damaging habits for ourselves and push the right people away. Cats or, Animals, are very different. In a nutshell, Learn to trust, Even when it’s hard to Let go. we can always Try to give life another chance, a chance to let life Take turn for the better.

It’s stunning how life’s greatest lessons, can be learned From a small, furry, animal. There are so many things we can learn from a cat if we take some time to study their behavior. and oh-

learned from a Cat, There is nothing a good cuddle can’t fix!
